Apocalypse is Coming

Speaking from personal experience, Apocolypse rules do not work well for those who do not actually have an Apocolypse formation for their army from one of the books. The extra bonuses you receive to make up the points help but an actual formation may still be very helpful. If your opponent should bring a Baneblade and you have nothing to counter with you may as well pick your models up from the table. It has happened to me and have seen it happen to others as well. Not saying you shouldn't play. Just trying to give a little advice is all.

Not very just look at gw website under the apoc formation articale.

Out of curiosity a fourmation does not have to be just vehicals right?

Correct, there are MANY formations that are just units of troops.
Many are given special rules for being with a specific named character, or for fulfilling a given task (like taking out or slowing vehicle units)

No, making formations is not hard. Just pick one or two (if you have the required number of models) you wish to use. Speaking from the Tyranid area of 40k, I am unable to use some of the formations only because of the amount of models required to form them. Not sure how the other army formations are. You may need to borrow or purchase many more models. This is why I do not play with the Apocalypse rules much.

Other than formations there are also the Stratagems which grant special abilities on some units or your whole army.

Granted formations automatically get a few, the good use of a Stratagem can turn an ordinary unit into debilitating thorn in the opponents side.

I will often use the Flank March Stratagem to allow a reserve unit to enter from any edge I wish. I have used this to have a standard 10 Ork Tankbusta mob assault a Dreadnought Formation with deadly results.

It's all in rethinking the best use of your units & which ones to take.

Interesting...it sounds prett cool...out of curiosity...when do you pick stratagems in this game type?

I believe they are chosen before the game begins and do not need to be revealed to your opponent until the moment you choose to use it or them.
